Poems and Pots Retreat for Women: Unleashing your Creativity with Words and Clay

Award winning potter and ceramics teacher Pam Korte and poet Pauletta Hansel offer a hands-on retreat for women which explores the connections between making poetry and pottery, both of which can use metaphor as creative inspiration.

Participants will work with techniques from pinch pot to a simple slab box and then use both free verse and specific poetic forms to bring the pot’s narrative into words. Included in the weekend is a hands-on ceramics process workshop without a firing component. All materials will be provided. An apron and a hand towel would be helpful. Participants will be directed to community resources for finish of ceramic work if so desired, including Grailville's new neighbor, Whistle Stop Clay Works in Loveland. The retreat is open to women at any (or no!) experience level in either art form. Poems and Pots will include time for individual and group creativity, rest and reflection, community-building and fun!

Pam Korte is an Assistant Professor at the College of Mt. St. Joseph where she teaches ceramics and writing for art majors. She has maintained a studio practice in various locations for 30 years and participates in selected regional shows. She has served as an Artist-in-Residence in area schools and her work has been featured in Ceramics Monthly magazine and other publications.

Pauletta Hansel is a poet, teacher and Co-Director of Grailville. She has two collections of poems, Divining (WovenWord Press, 2002) and First Person (Dos Madres Press, 2007), and has been published in journals and anthologies. Awards include Ohio Poet of the Year and Post-Corbett Award in Literary Arts. She is an MFA Candidate in Creative Writing at Queens University in Charlotte NC.
